Angel Griggs – Spann is an Internationally Known Independent Gospel Recording Artist, Professionally Trained Singer, Songwriter, Worship Leader, Multi-Global Award Winning Vocal & Studio Coach (2020), Vocal Producer, Professional Studio Multi-Ranged Vocalist, For Causes Soloist, Professional Arranger, but most importantly a humbled yielded servant of the most high God and addicted worshipper!
~Angel~ was born in Warrenton, North Carolina, January 19, 1975. She later relocated with her parents to the Maryland area, and has since remained to adulthood (labeling herself an adopted Washingtonian). Angel’s beautiful parents mother Dr. Arlene D. Griggs-Spann and adoptive dad Dr. Jerome Spann noticed her sincere unquenchable passion for singing, performing, and music by age 4 and therefore encouraged her to participate in school choirs, school bands, talent shows, church groups and so much more.
Angel began composing music and writing poetry that expressed her deep love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by age 11. Angel trained herself to vocally mimic notes and record her music with the keyboard her adoptive dad brought her. By the age of 14, Angel wrote her elementary school’s Alma mater and became one of the youngest adult choir directors for her church Anacostia Bible Church. By age 16, Angel’s Pastor at the time, loved her voice and was often moved to tears by her ministry and therefore, dedicated each 4th Sunday per month, as Angel’s Special Music Sunday, where Angel ministered in song during church service.
At age 17, Angel’s parents enrolled her into Washington Bible College where she studied Music Theory, Classical Vocal Technique, and Applied Music Voice for 2 years. Angel later graduated from Centura College with a degree in Business Management. Angel also began to coach aspiring youth who also shared a passion for singing, in her spare time, in SE, Washington, DC.
Angel’s voice has been classified as very unique, soft and smooth with a powder-puff texture; and was heavily influenced by some of her favorites, Vickie Winans, Whitney Houston, Cece Winans, Veronica Petrucci, Natalie Cole, Deniece Williams, and various others. She says she enjoys all types of music from, Gospel, R&B, Hip Hop, Classical, Jazz, Go-Go and very selective Rap. She has grown to appreciate the art and beauty of music on so many spectrums and sees music as an artistic way of creating a visual of what her feelings look like.
Angel’s experiences and unquenchable love for gospel music and impacting lives for the Lord, rewards her the opportunity to minister at numerous venues throughout the United States and by faith she will reach international venues soon.
To date, Angel continues to vocal coach both adults and children, and manages two bands as well as by God’s incredible grace. Angel’s Band’s “Angel & Friends” and “Euphony” are a unique team of anointed Musicians interconnected as family with the purpose of giving their audience an impactful experience while bringing God the ultimate praise. Each member of Angel’s bands, also maintain their respective solo careers adjacent to their commitment to the band. Angel also renders her gift on many recording artist music CD/DVD projects, and much more.
Beyond the studio, Angel is a walking, living, breathing, testimony, as she survived a Stroke and Partial seizure on September 19, 2015. Currently God is continuing to restore, heal and transform her body, as she continues to honor God with the gift he gave her, her voice. Angel is very family-oriented, loves spending time with her family, and enjoys cooking for them. She is also a devoted mother of two amazing teenagers daughter (18) and son (19). She says she prays daily that they will yearn to achieve and fulfill God’s divine purpose in their lives.
Her continuous goals/objectives are to quadruple her touring schedule by God’s grace, and minister both national and internationally, impacting lives for God’s Kingdom as well as walking fully in the calling God dedicated for her.
